UPI QR codes for small businesses in India

Create a UPI payment code, display it safely, and understand what a scan does and does not guarantee.

What the code actually contains

A UPI QR code encodes a payment request: the payee UPI ID, an optional amount, and a note. It is not a merchant gateway and does not confirm that money moved. Use your own active UPI ID and check it letter by letter before printing.

Display it where payment happens

Print the code at the counter or on a stand at eye level, with the payee name visible. Keep it dark on a light background and protect it from glare. Do not cover it with reflective tape, and do not let customers replace the displayed code with one of their own.

Reduce avoidable payment mistakes

If you embed an amount, confirm the payer sees the right figure. For variable amounts, leave the amount blank. Keep a second copy for busy counters, and reconcile payments in your bank or UPI app rather than trusting the scan alone.
